主讲人简介

       Jing Iris Hu (胡婧),加拿大蒙特利尔康考迪亚大学哲学助理教授,在美国杜克大学获得博士学位,在香港中文大学获得硕士学位,并在武汉大学获得学士学位。研究领域为道德心理学、伦理学和中国哲学,目前的工作重点是道德心理学和儒家哲学中的社会与共同体层面的道德情感、道德主体和自主权。主要学术成果发表在Journal of the American Philosophical Association, Dao, Philosophy Compass, and the Journal of Chinese Philosophy等学术刊物上。她还喜欢阅读神话和做自由翻译。她翻译的尼尔·盖曼的《北欧神话》是2019年亚马逊中国上最受欢迎的书籍之一。

 

讲座简介

      Is shame an accomplice of external oppressive values or an introspective emotion that reveals one's true moral character? We track the conflicting intuitions about shame and argue that they stem from inadequate attention to the social features of shame. We contribute a view of shame that accounts for the long-term interaction between self and community by emphasizing both one's agency in navigating shame related experience and the social conditions of shame, namely the social structures and values that breed shame for some while excusing and protecting others. We will demonstrate that individuals demonstrate their agency in shame not only by accepting, negotiating, or rejecting values but also by identifying with some communities and distancing from others. Whereas social aspects of shame are responsible for creating the larger pattern of people 'vulnerability of shame in society and communities and is also frequently aided by the powerful tool of internalization that can interfere and change individuals' value progress. We complicate the traditional view of shame by pointing out how it can be harmful in ways we didn't discuss before and also how it is morally potent as it propels individual agency.

       羞耻(shame)的自主性是非常复杂的,不仅仅是接受或不接受某种理念这种罗尔斯式的理解羞耻的方式。罗尔斯和Kekes等哲学家认为羞耻来自违反自己内心的某种信念。但最近对羞耻的社会学研究展现出一种如影随形的跟随者下等人地位或外来者地位的羞耻感。哪怕本人不接受某种信念,比如我不觉得当过民工是值得感到羞耻的,但可能这种羞耻还是在我心中阴魂不散。我在这个讲座中从人作为道德个体的社会性入手,复杂化主体性这个问题,从而解释为何哪怕面临这种“如影随形的无理由羞耻”我们还是可以说羞耻是具有主体性的。
