讲座摘要
According to pragma-dialecticians, the center of attention in argumentation theory is the achievement of effectiveness through reasonableness. In order to examine reasonableness they developed an ideal model of a critical discussion designed to resolve a difference of opinion based on the merits of the argumentative moves that are made that can be projected on argumentative discourse when analyzing and evaluating the discourse. In addition, they developed a code of conduct for maintaining reasonableness by observing ten basic rules for conducting a critical discussion that prevent the occurrence of the wrong argumentative moves known as “fallacies”. In the strategic maneuvering taking place in every argumentative move that is made a balance needs to be kept between aiming for effectiveness and maintaining reasonableness. In this lecture it is made clear that taking the strategic maneuvering into account leads to a deepening of the the analysis and a better understanding of argumentative discourse and a more adequate evaluationa. This is demonstrated with the help of a short argumentative text.
